If you are having difficulty breathing or experiencing other severe symptoms, call 9-1-1 immediately. Advise them of your symptoms, any known exposure to COVID-19 and your travel history.

Where can I get tested?

1 - COVID-19 Assessment Centres

Testing is available at COVID-19 Assessment Centres if you are:

  • showing symptoms of COVID-19,

  • notified by KFL&A Public Health that you have been exposed to a confirmed case of COVID-19 in the last 14 days,

  • a resident or employee of, or visitor to, a long-term care home, homeless shelter, or other congregate setting, or

  • part of an outbreak investigation as informed by KFL&A Public Health.

Weekly COVID-19 antigen testing is NOT available at the Beechgrove assessment centre

Unvaccinated individuals requiring weekly surveillance (antigen) testing for COVID-19 cannot be tested at a COVID-19 the Beechgrove assessment centre. Provincial Directive #6 states that employers are required to establish a testing plan for unvaccinated employees.

COVID-19 Assessment Centre (Lennox & Addington Assessment Centre)

2 - Pharmacies

Testing is available at selected pharmacies if you are:

  • a resident, employee, or visitor of a long-term care home,

  • a resident or employee in a shelter or other care or congregate setting,

  • a farm worker, 

  • are an international student who has completed their 14-day self-isolation period following international travel, or

  • someone who self-identifies as Indigenous. 

You cannot be tested at a pharmacy if you:

  • have symptoms,

  • have been in close contact with a person who has tested positive for COVID-19 in the last 14 days,

  • are an international student in their 14-day self-isolation period following international travel, or

  • have been notified of exposure to COVID-19 through the COVID Alert app.

What do I need to bring with me?

  • Please bring a valid Ontario health card or photo identification. 

  • Please bring confirmation of your email booking with you to the appointment.

  • Please arrive on time for your booked test.  Give yourself one hour to complete the testing process.

  • We ask that you avoid bringing well children or other healthy members of the community (e.g., friends, neighbours, drivers).

How do I obtain my COVID-19 test result?

  1. Check the Government of Ontario’s online portal for your test results.

  2. If you are unable to access the portal, contact your primary care provider and ask for your test results.

  3. If you are unable to access the portal or your primary care provider, you must obtain your results directly from your testing provider. If you were tested at the COVID-19 Assessment Centre in Kingston, or at Hotel Dieu Urgent Care, COPC, or KGH emergency department, call 613 544-3400, ext. 4204.  

    • If you were tested at the COVID-19 Assessment Centre in Napanee, call 613 354-8254.

    • If you were tested at Queen’s University, call 613 533-2506.

    • If you were tested at a pharmacy, call that pharmacy directly.

KFL&A Public Health cannot provide test results for individuals if they were not directed to be tested by KFL&A Public Health.

KFL&A Public Health will receive a copy of any positive COVID-19 result for anyone who resides in the region. If you test positive for COVID-19, KFL&A Public Health will contact you directly.

 

What happens if I test positive?

If you test positive for COVID-19, you must self-isolate immediately.

You will receive a call from a public health nurse who will:

  • Provide you with guidance on what to do.

  • Provide direction for your household members and other close contacts.

  • Ask questions about recent activities and contact with others including:

    • your contact information,
    • where you work,
    • risks for exposure,
    • current symptoms,
    • places you have recently been, and
    • anyone who have been a close contact.
  • Ask questions about income, race, language, and household size.

    • On June 15, 2020, the Ontario government announced that socio-demographic information will be collected from every Ontario resident who tests positive for COVID-19. This information will help understand who is more likely to get sick and have poorer health outcomes during COVID-19. It will also help put supports where they are needed and address the inequities that lead to increased risk.

  • Contact you daily to check in regarding symptoms, isolation, and answer any questions you may have.

 

Can I Wear a Face Shield Instead of a Face Covering?

If you are coming to the clinic for an in-person appointment, please be advised that you are required to wear a face mask.  As per the above video, a face shield does not replace a face mask.  Thank you for your understanding and participation in keeping our clinic a safe place for patients and for our Team members.
